North Gyeongsang
Gyeongsangbuk-do is the region with the most concentrated cultural heritage in Korea, encompassing Gyeongju, the thousand-year capital of Silla, and Andong, where Confucian culture remains. There are several UNESCO World Heritage sites including Bulguksa Temple and Seokguram Grotto, Daereungwon, Hahoe Village, and Byeongsan Seowon. Along the East Coast, the sea connects to Pohang's Homigot and the waters of Yeongdeok and Uljin. You can combine both historical and coastal travel in one trip.
Gyeongju has many historical sites concentrated in the city center, making it easy to explore by bicycle or on foot. Since there is distance between Gyeongju and Andong, it is better to allocate at least one day for each. Parking around Hwangridangil is difficult on weekends, so public transportation or an early visit is recommended. Ulleungdo ferry services are heavily affected by weather conditions, so allow flexibility in your itinerary.
