Gangwon
Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province is divided into the East Sea coastal area and mountainous regions with the Baekdudaegan mountain range between them. Typical attractions include the seas and beachside cafes of Sokcho, Gangneung, and Yangyang, the mountain scenery of Seoraksan and Odaesan, and the highland areas of Pyeongchang and Jeongseon. With distinct seasonal changes, travel varies completely depending on the time of year, from summer sea bathing to winter snowy scenery and skiing.
Yeongdong (Sokcho, Gangneung) and Yeongseo (Chuncheon, Wonju) are divided by a mountain range, which takes time to traverse. The KTX Gangneung Line provides good public transportation, taking about two hours from Seoul to Gangneung. Winter mountain roads have icy sections, so you should check winter equipment. Summer peak season beaches and autumn foliage at Seoraksan are very crowded, so aim for early hours.
